Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris was born October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. Harris is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as being the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was elected again in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez to become the 2nd African American woman senator and the first South Asian American ever to be elected to the United States Senate. In her time as a senator, she pushed for healthcare reform, federal descholaring of cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens as well as the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. Harris also backed progressive tax reform. Her pointed questioning of Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, which included the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
